President Donald Trump confirmed he and Gov. Walz spoke by phone and described the conversation as constructive and “very good,” a development that should surprise no one who believes in talking straight and solving problems rather than grandstanding. Both sides publicly framed the call as productive, with Walz saying he pressed for fair, independent investigations into recent violent incidents while Trump emphasized getting criminals off the streets.
Governor Walz says he sought “fair and independent” probes into the deaths that ignited the unrest, a reasonable request — but talk is cheap when his administration’s failures created the vacuum that federal agents moved to fill. Minnesotans deserve accountability, not a press tour, and Walz’s request for investigations cannot be a substitute for competent governance and law enforcement that protects innocent citizens.
The reality on the ground is a mess: federal action was spurred by escalating violence during ICE operations, and national attention only grows when local leaders appear more interested in scoring political points than restoring order. Now is the moment for Walz to stop grandstanding, cooperate on investigations that bring real justice, and start restoring safety — or accept the label he’s earned from the right and from every hardworking American tired of watching their communities be neglected.
