Jim Banks: Stop Funding Foes, Invest in America First

Sen. Jim Banks warned viewers that the looming Iran conflict could carry a staggering price tag—roughly $200 billion—and vowed those costs should be redirected to America First priorities like homeland security and veterans’ needs, not to the wasteful foreign aid mentality the left prefers. His remarks on The Big Weekend Show cut straight to the point: when Americans pay the bills, domestic priorities must come first and Democrats cannot be trusted to make that choice.

The same Democrats who refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security are now lecturing about national security while holding the country hostage during a DHS funding fight, exposing the rank hypocrisy of the party that preaches compassion but delivers chaos. Ordinary Americans are the ones paying the price—long TSA lines and frayed security at our borders—while lawmakers play political theater in Washington.

Banks is absolutely right to demand that any extraordinary wartime expense be paid for by trimming the fat from bloated foreign aid and re-prioritizing spending to veterans, border security, and military readiness. Conservatives have been warning for years that Washington’s spending priorities are upside down; now, when the bill comes due, our leaders should steer resources to defend Americans first.

The fiscal argument is simple: $200 billion is real money that can rebuild readiness, shore up ports of entry, and fix long-neglected equipment for our troops, not bankroll endless nation-building campaigns. Republicans who cling to the America First banner must translate rhetoric into real budgetary discipline and force choices that protect taxpayers.

This fight is also political—Democrats’ obstructionism on DHS funding and their reflexive support for handing out money overseas before shoring up our own country will be a decisive issue heading into the 2026 elections. Voters know which party stands with working Americans and which party puts foreign priorities and open borders above everyday security and jobs at home.

If Washington refuses to act, patriotic conservatives must keep turning up the pressure and remind voters that America First is not a slogan but a plan: stop funding our enemies and fools abroad, secure our borders, and rebuild our military so our sons and daughters come home victorious and safe. Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who will fight for them in the budget debates and on the battlefield of ideas, and Jim Banks just reminded the country who is on the right side of that fight.
