For years, they have vilified him, labeling him with all sorts of unhinged terms, yet in a moment like this, we see Trump and Obama sharing a laugh, almost as though the “Orange Hitler” claims were nothing more than a bad soap opera plot. If Trump is indeed the threat to democracy that they’ve suggested, why were they all so eager to engage with him, instead of pretending he didn’t exist?
One can only imagine the thoughts racing through Kamala’s mind as she watched the two presidents engage amicably. Perhaps jealousy was part of it; after all, she is slated to continue her role as Vice President, while Trump is re-emerging to claim the spotlight once more. It’s difficult to blame her—sitting next to Doug at that moment, she must have felt both trapped and slightly envious of the attention that Trump and Obama commanded. Those homecoming conversations between them should be interesting to say the least.
