Conservatives watched the coverage and saw a familiar pattern: Democratic operatives and the mainstream press rush to frame unrest as noble and quaint while downplaying the real incidents that did occur. Cities that reported mostly peaceful marches still had pockets where law enforcement made arrests and where prepared troublemakers turned up with tactical gear and fake explosives; those facts did not fit the tidy narrative being sold on cable and in print.
