Leftist Hysteria Strikes Again: The Handmaid’s Tale Isn’t Banned, So Why the Drama?

The so-called intellectual elite is at it again, misunderstanding basic terms and jumping to play the victim. The recent spectacle involving Margaret Atwood and her famed book “The Handmaid’s Tale” is just another example of leftist hysteria at its best. You’d think they don’t understand what being “banned” truly means. Atwood’s book is not forbidden; it’s widely available. Yet here we are, with 60 Minutes insisting that her novel faces some merciless censorship. Newsflash: you can buy it right this moment on Amazon, in multiple formats from hardcover to Kindle.

This whole charade highlights yet another instance of leftist hypocrisy. When a school chooses not to include a book that involves disturbing themes like ritualistic abuse, it’s apparently labeled as a ban. But where are these liberals when institutions forbid students from reading the Bible because its values allegedly offend? Nowhere to be found. Instead of owning up to a clear double standard, they’d rather weaponize cultural moments for their own narrative.

Atwood herself seems to have capitalized on the current political climate, claiming her book’s success is tied to the “twists and turns” of history, rather than its merit. This aligns perfectly with how many on the left operate—turn everything into a politically charged statement, and luck will follow. They love to imagine themselves as resistance fighters, donned in red cloaks, marching against some imaginary tyranny that they’ve constructed in their collective minds.

Meanwhile, in countries like Germany, actual censorship is taking place. People get penalized for simply criticizing their government online. But instead of condemning real oppression, the left enjoys playing the victim card for fictional tales and non-existent bans. Funny how they’re silent when it fits their agenda.

Parents have every right to decide what’s appropriate for their kids. Schools are funded by tax dollars, so parents should get a say in the curriculum. It’s not banning; it’s responsible parenting. But the left is too busy weaving tales of oppression to care. Maybe they should stop chasing imaginary dragons and focus on real-world issues. Or is that asking too much?
