Left’s Gerrymandering Mastery Undermines Democracy’s Core

Democrats and Republicans are both guilty of gerrymandering, but the left has turned it into an art form. They redraw district lines to pack their voters together and split up conservative communities. This dirty trick is ripping apart the fabric of American democracy.

When politicians get to pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians, we lose. Gerrymandering creates safe seats where lawmakers never have to worry about real competition. They can ignore what regular Americans want because they know they will win anyway.

The worst part is how this pushes our representatives to the extreme ends. Conservative lawmakers in safe red districts only worry about primary challenges from the far right. Liberal politicians in safe blue districts race to the far left to please their base. Nobody fights for the middle anymore.

Look at states like Illinois where Democrats drew crazy district lines that snake across hundreds of miles. One district stretches from Missouri all the way to Springfield and then east to Champaign. This is not what our founders wanted when they created representative government.

The Supreme Court made things worse in 2019 when they said federal courts cannot stop partisan gerrymandering. This gave both parties a green light to rig the system even more. Now states can draw whatever maps they want with no oversight.

Some states are fighting back and demanding fair maps. Wisconsin recently got new district lines that should make elections more competitive. North Carolina has been battling over gerrymandering for years with mixed results.

When districts are not competitive, politicians stop caring about solving real problems. They focus on culture war fights and extreme positions instead of kitchen table issues like jobs and healthcare. Working families suffer while politicians play games.

America needs fair elections where every vote counts equally. Gerrymandering is a cancer on our democracy that helps career politicians stay in power. We must demand competitive districts that force our representatives to earn our votes every single time.
