Liberals Expose True Goal: Ban Guns, But Teachers Reject Danger in Schools

Left-wing gun control advocates in a liberal state have finally admitted their true agenda – a full-blown gun buyback and the ban of guns. Saira Rao, the president and co-founder of Here 4 The Kids, a gun control advocacy organization, stated that guns are the number one killer of children in America. The organization wants to ban guns to save children’s lives and ensure their safety. Conservative republicans believe that living with the tragedy of shootings is rational compared to banning guns.

School shootings, such as Sandy Hook and Uvalde, have led to the idea that guns should be banned. Many supporters of the Second Amendment believe that a police presence, more mental health resources, and even arming teachers could decrease school shootings. The RAND Corporation recently conducted a survey asking K-12 teachers if they believe arming themselves could make schools safer.

However, the survey revealed that more than half of the teachers said that carrying firearms in school would make children less safe. Although 19% of teachers stated that they would be interested in carrying a gun to school, this would still equate to over 550,000 of the nation’s 3 million K-12 teachers. Furthermore, the remaining 26% believe that carrying firearms would neither make schools more or less safe.

According to the survey, white teachers were more likely to deem carrying firearms at school would make them safer than Black teachers. Male teachers in rural schools were also more likely to be interested in carrying a firearm if allowed by the school. Despite concerns over a gun-free environment, conservative republicans believe that some teachers should bear arms for self-defense when necessary.

Teachers’ top concern for students is bullying, according to the survey. Heather L. Schwartz, a policy researcher at RAND, co-authored the study and stated that “bullying, not active shooters, was teachers’ most common top safety concern, followed by fights and drugs.” Self-harm was also a top concern for middle school teachers. Unfortunately, bullying in schools has resulted in tragic suicides, such as the 11-year-old girl in New Jersey who took her life in a school bathroom after being bullied.

It is essential to take care of students’ mental health, but evading the topic of gun violence by advocating for a full-blown gun buyback and banning guns is not productive. Many conservative republicans believe that arming teachers can be an effective approach to gun violence, and more needs to be done to address bullying in schools and provide mental health resources to students in need.
