The left is up in arms as President-elect Donald Trump unveils more of his chosen team members for his upcoming administration. The nomination of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as Attorney General has sent shockwaves through the Democrat camp. Gaetz, known for his bold conservative views, is a strong force that has Democrats shaking in their boots. Trump’s selection of Gaetz signifies a major shake-up within the Department of Justice, and liberals just can’t handle it.
Matt Gaetz is not the only nominee causing a stir. Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, a highly decorated military veteran, faced harsh criticism from the usual suspects on the left. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) even had the audacity to call him “unqualified,” ignoring Hegseth’s extensive 20+ years of military service. The liberal critics like Jim Acosta and Joy Reid failed to recognize Hegseth’s credentials, but when Gaetz’s nomination came into play, the Democrats went into overdrive. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) even demanded that the Senate deny Gaetz, warning of potential abuses within the DOJ.

The Democrats are in for a rude awakening if they think they can stop the Trump train. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) delivered a knockout blow when asked if Gaetz will be confirmed by the Senate, quipping, “Doesn’t need to—recess! He’s the Attorney General! Suck it up!” Massie’s reference to recess appointments, a clever tactic to bypass Senate approval, left reporters dumbfounded. Trump’s use of recess appointments wouldn’t give the Democrats a chance to block Gaetz, potentially sealing his position despite their resistance.
Recess appointments have been used by past Presidents like Obama, Clinton, and Bush to push through crucial nominations. Trump’s decision to possibly employ this strategy shows his determination to outsmart his opponents. The Democrats may not like it, but as Massie bluntly put it, they’ll just have to deal with it. Trump’s strategic moves are already setting the tone for a DOJ that will be unapologetically different from what the left has grown accustomed to.
Democrats may be throwing a fit over Gaetz’s nomination, but their tantrums won’t change the game plan. Trump is playing chess while they are playing checkers, and it’s clear that he’s not afraid to shake things up at the Department of Justice.
