Another day, another tragedy on an American college campus. This time, it’s Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia—yet again, students and staff are caught in the middle as chaos erupts on what should be the hallowed grounds of learning. On Thursday morning, a gunman stormed into Constant Hall and opened fire. Two innocents are now recovering in the hospital, and the suspect is dead. The nightmare moment for these students may be over, but America’s gut-wrenching questions remain.
This nation has had enough of so-called “gun-free zones” that act as welcome mats for criminals and maniacs. The left pushes endless rules and signs claiming guns aren’t allowed, but madmen couldn’t care less about liberal “requests.” What these places really do is disarm law-abiding citizens and make fish-in-a-barrel targets out of our students. Liberals point fingers at the Second Amendment every time there’s an incident, but it’s their own anti-gun policies that turn our universities into sitting ducks.

What was the university doing to prevent this? Are we expected to just trust that more cameras and another task force will magically solve the problem? Democrats love to talk a big game about “safe spaces,” but their empty promises do nothing when evil comes face-to-face with our young people. Instead, their solution is to turn campuses into censorship-filled echo chambers where only criminals have real power.
Let’s be real: when tragedy like this strikes, left-wing politicians and bureaucrats show up with their tired script. They’ll use the moment to push for more gun control, ignoring the mountain of evidence that their “solutions” never stop evil—they only tie the hands of good Americans who want to defend themselves. Universities are more focused these days on indoctrinating students with woke, globalist nonsense than protecting them from real threats.
How many more times does this need to happen before we stop repeating the same failed playbook? When will this country wake up and demand campuses that empower students and staff to defend themselves, not leave them helpless in the face of evil? Maybe liberals should care less about speech codes and pronouns, and more about making sure young Americans aren’t left defenseless in their own classrooms.
