Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey are choosing politics over public safety while federal officers try to do the hard work of keeping dangerous people off our streets. What should be straightforward law-enforcement cooperation instead looks like a political theater, with mobs springing up and elected Democrats egging them on rather than securing neighborhoods. The escalation — including large federal deployments and nonstop demonstrations — is a direct consequence of that failed leadership.
The tragic death of Renee Good amid ICE activity ignited nationwide protests and prompted the largest DHS operation many of us have ever seen, throwing Minneapolis into chaos and fear. With thousands of federal agents moved into the area to enforce the law, residents who just want safe streets are left watching as local leaders posture and national agitators descend. This is not law-and-order; it is a policy failure that hands the narrative to the people doing the real work.
Rather than back the officers trying to restore order, Walz and Frey have publicly criticized ICE’s presence and sent mixed messages that some activists heard as a green light to obstruct enforcement. Telling citizens to “stay peaceful” while simultaneously condemning the federal response invites confusion and makes local police’s job almost impossible. Americans deserve mayors and governors who will stand with law enforcement, not bait the country into confrontation.
