Sarah Bedford has a bone to pick with Maine’s decision to kick former President Donald Trump off their 2024 ballot. She thinks this action will only make Trump stronger and weaken the Democrats. Bedford took her fiery opinions to Fox Business’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast, where she laid out her case for why Maine’s move is a political gift for Trump.

According to Bedford, this kind of exclusion has only made Trump more alluring to voters in the past. She argues that it pushes people who may have been on the fence or leaning away from Trump right into his waiting arms. Those centrist voters who may have doubted Trump’s claims of being targeted by Democrats now have to admit that he’s facing serious opposition from the Democratic machine.
Despite facing multiple charges and allegations, Trump still holds a considerable lead in the GOP presidential nomination polls. Even with 91 felony charges looming over him, he’s managed to plead not guilty and maintain his standing in the eyes of many supporters.
Bedford also takes aim at the Department of Justice, accusing them of using “novel interpretations of the law” in a desperate bid to take down Trump. She suggests that this tactic could do more harm than good for the Democratic Party. With Biden already facing challengers from within his own party for the 2024 election, the last thing they need is to fan the flames of support for Trump.
In Bedford’s eyes, Maine’s decision to keep Trump off the ballot ultimately undermines democracy by denying voters a choice. She also takes a swing at the Democrats, claiming that they’ve shifted their focus away from democracy and are now solely fixated on painting Trump as a threat. As a result, she argues, the Democrats have abandoned their rhetoric about safeguarding voting rights and defending democracy.
With Colorado also having booted Trump from their ballot on similar grounds, Bedford sees this as a worrying trend that could backfire on the Democrats. As it stands, Trump is emerging from these challenges looking stronger than ever, much to the chagrin of his opponents.
