In a surprising turn of events, Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, took a break from his usual Biden-bashing routine and actually patted President Joe Biden on the back in a recent op-ed. What was the topic that prompted this unexpected display of camaraderie, you ask? None other than the good old American energy production. Yes, you heard that right, folks! The staunch Democrat from the heart of coal country actually had some nice things to say about all the oil, gas, and renewable energy that the country is churning out.
In a Washington Post op-ed, Manchin was practically gushing as he congratulated President Biden for the “record-breaking” energy production happening in the good ol’ U.S. of A. He went on to boast about how our country has never been more energy independent than it is today and urged Biden to celebrate this monumental achievement. But hold onto your hats, because here comes the plot twist! Manchin credited this energy success to none other than the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. That’s right, folks, he actually gave the administration some credit where credit was due. But hold on, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, because Manchin also took a jab at the administration for not wanting to brag about these accomplishments, all because they’re afraid of getting on the bad side of those pesky environmentalists.
According to Manchin, the president’s advisors are so hung up on not upsetting the climate activists that they would rather keep mum about the great strides in energy production. And as a result, Manchin argues, the president who was supposed to be a centrist is being dragged further and further to the left. Oh, the horror! And in case you didn’t know, the topic of energy has become a real hot potato, with the far-left crowd pushing for lower energy production in the U.S. But hold on to your cowboy hats, folks, because the Republicans are not having it! They’ve been giving Biden flak for not doing enough to promote good old oil and gas.
Now, before you think that Joe Manchin has had a complete change of heart and is suddenly joining the Biden fan club, let’s not forget that he’s still departing from the Senate come January. But hey, he did help get that Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2021, and he’s still standing by it. However, he’s not about to let the administration off the hook that easily. He’s accused them of trying to manipulate the act and using the funds too broadly. Oh, Joe, you sly dog, you sure know how to keep us on our toes!
