House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has returned to California to address the alarming crime rates and weak border security in the area. During a meeting at the Orange County district attorney’s office with several other Republican Congress members, McCarthy raised concerns about recent home invasions and the need for stricter prosecution of criminals. He took to Twitter to express his disdain for the Biden administration’s handling of the situation. McCarthy strongly believes that “criminal rings from South America are using highly sophisticated methods to invade Californians’ homes, burglarize property, and launder money through China.” He fiercely condemned the lack of consequences such criminals face when caught, backed by Republican members in support of prosecution.
It is rare for McCarthy to hold such a discussion outside of his district. The move prompted pundits to view his visit as an effort to gain support for Republican re-election bids next year, targeting critical voting blocs in California’s southern part. McCarthy also highlighted the issues concerning a visa loophole for Chilean migrants deemed responsible for the recent crime wave in the area, stealing from homes and causing a widespread panic.
Under Biden and Mayorkas, criminal rings from South America are using highly sophisticated methods to invade Californians' homes, burglarize property, and launder money through China.
It must stop.

Overall, crime remains a top concern for American voters. Republicans are using the issue as leverage to position their party as the safer option than Democratic leadership. McCarthy’s visit garnered mixed reviews as this issue continues to be a focal point of the upcoming election. However, time is essential, and polls will soon dictate the effectiveness of McCarthy’s outreach to southern California voters.
