Michelle Obama has finally given her reason for skipping Donald Trump’s inauguration, and surprise, surprise, it’s all about her. While her husband, Barack Obama, was gracious enough to attend, Michelle was too busy “choosing herself” to show up. Once again, we’re witnessing the self-centered solipsism that has become all too familiar on the left.
Apparently, Michelle felt she couldn’t attend because, astonishingly, she made the choice that was “right for her.” Not what was right for the nation, not what was expected as a former First Lady, but what pleases Michelle. It’s the kind of self-indulgent individualism that their crowd often criticizes when it doesn’t suit their narrative.

Also, let’s not forget the divorce rumors. While Michelle skips out to “focus on herself,” the media spins tales of marital distress. It’s amusing how the leftist media machine ends up weaving stories out of their flawed interpretations. Instead of holding her accountable or asking why a former national representative is ignoring a national event, they indulge in baseless speculation.
In her podcasts, Michelle talks about rejecting the stereotype of what society expects from her. Here’s the reality: in America, when you take on the role of First Lady, like it or not, there are expectations. People aren’t upset because Michelle Obama chose to live her life. They are frustrated because, in doing so, she’s shown disrespect for American traditions.
At the heart of it all is the Obama disdain for politics—or better put, their disdain for playing by the rules of American political decency. If attending inaugurations and serving the public are not of interest, why stay in the political spotlight? Perhaps it’s time for Michelle to ask herself if she really belongs in the public eye at all, or if she should just retreat to her echo chamber. Why engage with a system she clearly despises?
