The U.S. government has officially shut down, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson places the blame squarely on Senate Democrats for the impasse. Johnson asserts that Democrats are playing political games rather than addressing the urgent needs of the American people. Johnson criticized Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, for demanding a massive $1.5 trillion increase in spending over just seven weeks, including controversial provisions such as health care coverage for undocumented immigrants, a move that many Republicans firmly oppose. He argues the Democrats are not negotiating in good faith, instead causing unnecessary gridlock through shifting priorities and political posturing.
