Fox News host Jesse Watters is bluntly right: standing up to crime and fraud is not racism, it’s patriotism. Recent revelations out of Minnesota expose a pattern of large-scale welfare and program fraud that has bled taxpayer dollars dry and left hardworking Minnesotans paying the bill, and conservatives are rightly demanding accountability. The scale of the scandal — involving programs like Feeding Our Future and the Housing Stabilization Services program — has ballooned into the hundreds of millions and, by some counts, over a billion dollars in suspected theft.
Prosecutors have already brought dozens of indictments and convictions tied to these schemes, and many of the named defendants happen to come from Minnesota’s Somali community — a painful reality that some in the political class reflexively respond to by crying “racism” instead of enforcing the law. These are allegations against individuals and organized networks, not blanket verdicts on an entire immigrant population, and the rule of law must apply without fear or favor. Minnesotans deserve to see investigations pursued fully and evidence preserved so the guilty are punished and the innocent are protected.
Worse still, reporting has suggested that some of the money siphoned off through hawala networks may have reached extremist groups abroad, creating a national security concern on top of sheer fiscal theft. If even a fraction of taxpayer-funded dollars end up enriching terror networks like Al-Shabaab, Americans have a right to be furious and to demand immediate action from federal and state authorities. This is not a time for virtue-signaling or soft-pedaling; it’s a time for prosecutors and investigators to get to work.
Congressional Republicans are responding, with oversight leaders firing off letters demanding documents and warning about potential evidence destruction — a necessary pressure point given the size and seriousness of the allegations. Governor Tim Walz and other Democratic leaders can either cooperate or keep hiding behind excuses, but voters will remember who stood with taxpayers and who stood with a political narrative. The American people do not want political cover-ups; they want transparency, prosecutions where warranted, and real reforms to prevent future theft.
Conservatives who say “it’s not racist to fight crime” are making a simple, unassailable point: law and order is colorblind, and protecting taxpayers is a basic duty of government. When accusations of fraud involve tight-knit communities, local officials sometimes get squeamish — but squeamishness is not leadership, it is enabling. We need targeted reforms: tougher audits, tougher penalties for fraud, and immigration and resettlement policies that prioritize security and assimilation over unchecked expansion.
This moment should be a wake-up call for every patriot who pays taxes and loves their country: demand investigations, demand prosecutions, and demand systemic change so that public assistance helps the truly needy instead of lining the pockets of con artists.
