Mobs Shield Criminals, Undermine Law and Order

They tell us that protecting criminals from the law is now a noble cause, and too many Americans are watching in stunned disbelief as mobs physically block federal agents doing the dangerous work of keeping our streets safe. In recent weeks protesters in Manhattan and other cities have surrounded and obstructed federal immigration and law-enforcement operations that federal officials say targeted murderers, sex offenders, and gang members, turning arrests into PR stunts while officers risk their lives to do their jobs.

Worse still, influential elected officials and media figures have all too often provided cover for this lawlessness, turning harassment of masked federal officers into a moral badge rather than a crime. States like California have even passed laws aimed at restricting federal tactics and the federal government has pushed back, arguing those laws endanger agents and undermine the Constitution’s supremacy — a dangerous precedent that rewards obstruction over the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the victims of violent crime and their families are being treated like collateral damage while zealots cheer on anyone who can get between a federal agent and a hardened criminal. It’s unconscionable to watch grieving families forced to witness demonstrators rally to protect the very criminals who destroyed their lives, and to see authorities hesitate to call out the moral inversion for what it is.

The social-media crowd has moved beyond slogans into dangerous advocacy, with fringe influencers openly urging violence and encouraging followers to take up arms against federal officers after high-profile incidents. These aren’t sober calls for reform — they are incitements that put officers and civilians at risk and signal a fringe class’s total detachment from reality and responsibility.

This trend has real consequences: cities that flirt with obstructing federal enforcement invite constitutional fights and public-safety breakdowns, and the reports from Minneapolis and other hot spots show how quickly order can fray when ideology outweighs common sense. Law-abiding Americans expect elected leaders to defend public safety, not to posture while mobs celebrate the paralysis of law enforcement.

And then there’s the corporate capitulation on merit under the guise of progress. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has doubled down on diversity initiatives, insisting the league will continue to emphasize diversity as a value even as many Americans rightly call for hiring based on ability and results. If the game’s best attribute is winning, executives who bow to narratives instead of defending merit are sending a terrible message to every young American who believes hard work should trump political fashion.
