A conservative parents’ group is shaking up Pride Month traditions in Wisconsin. Moms for Liberty Wisconsin chair Scarlett Johnson sparked national attention this week by declaring June should focus on “parental rights” instead of LGBTQ celebrations. The group claims schools and governments are pushing radical gender ideology on children without families’ consent.
Johnson told Fox News viewers, “We don’t co-parent with the government.” Her comments come as Wisconsin debates displaying Pride flags on public buildings. While Madison’s Capitol flies the Progress Pride Flag this month, the Wisconsin Historical Society refused to raise it for the first time in years. Critics call this a victory for anti-LGBTQ extremists.
Liberal activists have attacked Moms for Liberty as “dangerous” for protesting school policies on transgender students and sexually explicit library books. Left-wing groups like Hate Free Outagamie recently protested the organization’s Appleton event. Union teachers in Milwaukee even pressured hotels to cancel the group’s GOP debate-related gatherings.
The controversy exposes a growing divide over childhood education. Moms for Liberty members argue schools secretly teach kids about graphic sexual topics and gender transitions. They’ve demanded transparency about curriculum and bathroom policies. One mother testified, “Our kids aren’t political pawns for woke agendas.”
Opponents claim the group spreads harmful “groomer” rhetoric about LGBTQ people. Radical activists have harassed Moms for Liberty members at their homes and workplaces. But Johnson’s supporters say this proves liberals want to silence concerned parents. “They call us extremists for wanting to protect innocence,” said a Waukesha chapter member.
The Pride Flag debate symbolizes this cultural clash. Governor Tony Evers claims flying the banner shows “dignity and respect” for LGBTQ residents. Moms for Liberty counters that taxpayer-funded buildings shouldn’t promote divisive political symbols. “Our schools and courthouses should be neutral spaces,” Johnson insisted.
Many Wisconsin parents applaud the pushback against Pride Month events. They argue schools should focus on math and reading instead of gender fluidity lessons. “Let kids be kids without activist teachers confusing them,” said a father of three from Green Bay. Polls show most Republicans support reviewing school materials for age-appropriate content.
As summer begins, this battle shows no signs of cooling. Moms for Liberty plans town halls across Wisconsin to recruit more families to their cause. With school board elections approaching, both sides are digging in for a contentious fight over America’s children and values.
