Vice President Kamala Harris has once again left Americans perplexed and amused with her latest gaffe. During her appearance on MSNBC’s “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” Harris delivered a 45-second speech that can only be described as a “word salad.” In a clip posted by RNC Research, Harris can be heard saying, “You know, every election cycle we talk about this is the most election of our lifetime. Lawrence, this one is.”

While another politician with a firm command of language might have made a similar comment, they would have clarified their meaning by emphasizing the significance of this election, whether it be in terms of importance, decisiveness, or controversy. However, Harris provided no such clarification. She simply referred to 2024 as “the most election.” The Twitter account X summarized her statement as, “Kamala Harris: ‘This is the most election of our lifetime.'” One is reminded of Republican Gov. Jacob Cox’s scathing description of Democratic President Andrew Johnson during the Reconstruction Era: “He is obstinate without being firm, self-opinionated without being capable of systematic thinking, combative and pugnacious without being courageous.” Cox concluded, “He is always worse than you expect.” These words aptly describe the reactions Harris elicits with her public appearances.
Social media users wasted no time in mocking Harris’s latest blunder. One user tweeted, “This one is the most election of our lifetime. There’s never been an election this most election,” in a clear parody of Harris’s statement. If Harris had stopped at “most election,” it would have been business as usual for her. But she didn’t stop there. She went on to say, “We are literally talking about people who are attempting to divide our country in the most crude, frankly, and profound way.” And she didn’t stop there either. She proceeded to deliver a parody of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s iconic “four freedoms” speech. Harris’s version included references to “the freedom to make a decision about your own body” and “the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride,” accompanied by wild hand gestures. Social media users were cringing at the spectacle, calling Harris an “utter embarrassment” and labeling her performance as “terrible” and “embarrassing.” It seems like embarrassment and mortification can hardly capture the full extent of Harris’s gaffes — she always manages to exceed expectations in the worst way.
