In a recent statement, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) expressed his confidence that President Joe Biden need not worry about Robert Kennedy Jr.’s potential candidacy in the 2024 presidential election. In Murphy’s view, voters who prioritize democracy will inevitably vote for Biden. RFK Jr., who many see as a formidable challenger to Biden for the Democratic Party’s 2024 nomination, is rumored to be considering running as an independent.
Contrary to the concerns that RFK Jr.’s candidacy may harm Biden’s chances of reelection, Murphy dismissed these worries outright. He suggested that those who are drawn to RFK Jr. are primarily from Donald Trump’s conspiracy theory following and that if RFK Jr. were to run as an independent, it could potentially be more detrimental to Trump or the Republican nominee. With his characteristic flair, the senator labeled the ongoing media coverage of RFK Jr.’s run as “a bit of an elite media fascination.”

Furthermore, Murphy asserted that third-party candidates will play a minimal role in the 2024 presidential election, despite the heightened attention they may receive. He believed that those who truly support democracy, Ukraine, and competent government would recognize that voting for Biden is the only way to safeguard those foundational values.
RFK Jr. recently released a video hinting at a major announcement he plans to make during an event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 9. The details of this announcement remain unknown, but RFK Jr. emphasized that it would be an important moment.
In the Democratic primary, RFK Jr. faces competition from candidates such as Marianne Williamson and Terrisa Bukovinac. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump leads the pack of primary candidates, with other notable contenders including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
