The political drama surrounding the upcoming 2024 election gets a no-holds-barred exploration in Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen’s new book “Fight.” The narrative reveals chaos within the Democrats as Nancy Pelosi orchestrated an internal coup, swiftly sidelining Joe Biden and planting Kamala Harris in the hot seat. If there was ever a perfect storm for political humor, this is it. The Democrats, already teetering on the edge of chaos, managed to prove that they could simultaneously juggle numerous losing battles. Spoiler alert: they dropped the ball on all fronts.

The feedback from the political arena is hardly a ringing endorsement: from her disastrous campaign strategy to the incompetence of her team, it looks like the entire Harris operation could use a corporate boot camp. It’s almost endearing how the Democrats thought a new strategy would transform her into a viable candidate—it’s akin to trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

Furthermore, political analysts have pointed out that Harris’s reputation has taken a hit akin to an all-you-can-eat buffet experienced during a food fight. Dan Turrentine echoed that Harris’s supposed political resurrection in California’s gubernatorial race is far from guaranteed. The mere thought of her returning to the public eye post-debacle raises eyebrows, because what do you do after a public meltdown on a national stage? Apparently, Harris plans to carry her baggage right into the California governor’s mansion, whatever that entails.
Adding fuel to the fire, Mark Halperin, a former MSNBC analyst, underscored that Harris’s greatest weakness may very well stem from her immense difficulty making tough decisions under duress. With a history of stumbling through critical moments, Harris’s ability to lead during a state crisis now raises more questions than answers. As she strategizes her way forward, one can only hope that she’s learned from past missteps, but given her track record, it might be safer to bet on her forgetting why she stumbled in the first place. In summary, the Democratic Party appears to be in for a long, bumpy ride, with Harris in the passenger seat and the GPS permanently stuck on “lost.”
