Finally, some common sense is coming back to our schools. Both New York and Texas are cracking down on cell phones in classrooms, and it’s about time someone stood up for real education over digital distractions.
New York City schools will ban smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Mayor Eric Adams put $25 million behind this policy because he knows what every parent already figured out – phones are destroying our kids’ ability to learn. Students can still use their devices going to and from school, but during class time, those distractions are getting locked away.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1481 into law, creating a bell-to-bell ban on personal devices in all public schools. The Texas House passed this with a crushing 128 to 17 vote, and the Senate made it unanimous at 31 to 0. When politicians from both parties agree on something this strongly, you know it’s the right thing to do.
These phones aren’t just harmless gadgets – they’re mental health destroyers that keep our children from focusing on what matters. Kids are getting addicted to social media instead of learning math, science, and reading. Every minute spent scrolling through apps is a minute stolen from real education.
Parents have been fighting this battle at home for years, trying to get their kids to put down the phones and pick up books. Now schools are finally backing up mom and dad instead of making their job harder. This is what happens when government actually supports families instead of undermining them.
The liberal education establishment has been letting Big Tech companies turn our classrooms into digital playgrounds. These same people who lecture us about corporate influence have been handing our children over to Silicon Valley billionaires. It took real conservative leadership to say enough is enough.
Critics will whine about emergency contact and claim this violates some imaginary right to constant internet access. But schools are required to provide ways for parents to reach their kids in emergencies, just like we did for generations before smartphones existed. Our children survived just fine without being glued to screens 24 hours a day.
This is what winning looks like when conservatives fight for traditional values and common sense. While the left pushes radical gender ideology and DEI nonsense, Republican leaders are focusing on the basics – helping kids learn without digital poison rotting their brains. Every parent in America should demand their state follow Texas and New York’s lead.
