Vice President Kamala Harris, supposedly the backup plan, isn’t exactly locking down the confidence of voters either. A memo from BlueLabs Analytics says she doesn’t perform as well as other Democrats in key battleground states against Trump. Imagine that—four Democrats, including Sen. Mark Kelly and governors Wes Moore, Josh Shapiro, and Gretchen Whitmer, all supposedly outshine Harris and even Biden by a cozy 5-percentage-point margin in matchups against Trump.
Hilariously, the memo states Harris performs poorly compared to the average Democratic alternative. It appears voters have caught onto her closely tied status with Team Biden and are clamoring for a fresh face instead. This isn’t rocket science; she trails Trump by 3 points in a CBS/YouGov poll, a survey that even showed Trump widening his lead over Biden nationally since early July. You’ve got to wonder, what happened to the “more popular” Harris narrative?
While Harris was busy trying to bolster her campaign alongside North Carolina’s Roy Cooper, Joe Biden was lounging around his Delaware vacation home battling another bout of COVID-19. His doctor assured the public that his symptoms are mild—just in time for his campaign officials to insist that Biden is still the plan.
Even with allies like Sen. Christopher Coons trying to rally the Democratic troops around Biden, the writing on the wall is clear. Emerson College polls indicate Trump leading by significant margins in swing states, suggesting that it’s not so much Trump gaining support but Biden hemorrhaging it faster than a sinking ship.
Obama’s worry is palpable as he’s reportedly making calls to top Democrats, raising alarms about Biden’s declining poll numbers.
