In a surprising turn of events, Democrat Congressman Ritchie Torres of New York mistakenly voted against a resolution condemning anti-Semitic, pro-Hamas demonstrations on college campuses. Torres, who has been a vocal supporter of Israel, mistakenly voted against the resolution introduced by Republican Burgess Meredith. The resolution condemns the support of terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah at institutions of higher education and calls for an investigation into creating a hostile environment for Jewish students.
On the House floor, I mistakenly voted against a resolution condemning campus antisemitism. As a visible and vocal advocate against antisemitism on college campuses, especially in the wake of October 7th, I have submitted a correction for the record.
I have no use for pro-Hamas…

It’s unclear why Torres made the mistake or when he realized it, but he admitted to the error on social media. As one of the few Democrats willing to take on “The Squad,” Torres has been a target of criticism from members like Ilhan Omar. Omar called out Torres for his pro-Israel stance and questioned how many more Palestinian lives he was comfortable with.
It’s refreshing to see a Democrat stand up against the anti-Semitic rhetoric of “The Squad.” However, it is concerning that the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party seems to be gaining influence. Torres should be commended for owning up to his mistake and not trying to deflect attention away from it.
