In a significant victory for conservatives, Oregon Republicans have caused Democrats to drop a concerning proposal that would have allowed girls to get an abortion at any age without parental consent. Breitbart reported that Democrats didn’t budge on this matter until the Republicans went on a 6-week-long walkout from the state legislature.

But last Thursday, the GOP leader announced that Senate Republicans and Independents had held firm as the last line of defense for parental rights and the rule of law. According to him, this move restored parents’ rights and accountability to the government.

Republicans in the state repeatedly urged Democratic leaders to put the critical needs of all Oregonians first instead of prioritizing an extreme agenda that does nothing but divide its people. The fact that Republicans have achieved constitutional, lawful bipartisanship marks a turning point in politics for a cleaner and less extreme government.
However, even though the Republicans managed to kill off the abortion proposal, there remain other provisions in HB 2002. These include expanding the types of so-called “gender affirming care” that insurance providers must cover.
The radical nature of HB 2002 became public after a nonpartisan attorney for the Oregon Legislature revealed that the bill allows children to make “reproductive health care decisions” regardless of the child’s age. This easy access has been used by child sexual predators to conceal matches of child sexual abuse, as proven by a 2015 lawsuit against Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. Timothy David Smith impregnated his 13-year-old victim and subsequently took her for an abortion to prevent detection by the authorities.
This victory for parental rights and the rule of law is a significant milestone as it restores accountability, lawfulness, and transparency to the state government, far from the Democratic wishes of dividing the state along extremist agendas.
