In a surprising development, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called for the resignation of Senator Robert Menendez in light of his federal bribery and corruption charges. Pelosi is not the only Democrat calling for Menendez's resignation. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the first Democrat to demand it, followed by Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent New York Democrat, also expressed her belief that Menendez should resign during an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation."
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre acknowledged the seriousness of the charges against Menendez but did not explicitly state whether he should resign, leaving the decision to the senator and Senate leadership.
As the chorus of Democrats demanding his resignation grows, it remains uncertain how Menendez will respond to the mounting pressure. This situation represents a significant setback for the senator, and the days ahead will likely determine his political future.
