Nancy Pelosi is in the hot seat once again, and this time it’s for her handling of the Trump impeachment inquiry. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently announced that he was opening up an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, which sparked a heated debate. But one thing that should not be up for debate is how Pelosi handled the impeachment inquiry into President Trump back in 2019 and the post-Capitol riot impeachment inquiry she started in 2021.
During a recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program, Pelosi was confronted about McCarthy’s remarks on how she managed the 2019 impeachment inquiry. And let’s just say, she didn’t handle it too well. When reminded that she did not hold a formal vote at first, Pelosi dismissed it as “hogwash” and expressed shock that the media was repeating McCarthy’s argument. But the receipts don’t lie. In October 2019, Pelosi herself stated that there was no requirement for a vote and that they would not be having one at that time. And in the second impeachment inquiry against Trump, there was no vote at all.
It’s clear that Pelosi is not willing to take responsibility for her own actions. She set the precedent by not holding a formal vote in 2019, and now McCarthy is simply following that precedent. But of course, Pelosi would rather deflect and make excuses than admit that she made a mistake. It’s just another example of politicians putting their own interests above the American people.
The fact that Pelosi is now running for reelection is even more concerning. If she can’t take responsibility for her past actions, how can we trust her to make sound decisions in the future? It’s time for a change and for politicians like Pelosi to be held accountable for their actions. We deserve better than this.
