Pro-life activists recently released from prison are celebrating their newfound freedom after receiving clemency from the one and only Donald Trump. These activists, previously convicted for engaging in acts of “civil disobedience” in support of their cause, are now making waves as they share their harrowing experiences behind bars and their enthusiastic plans for continued activism. After all, nothing can slow down the fight for life, not even a stint in the slammer.
Twenty-three pro-lifers landed in the hot seat under the notorious FACE Act for seemingly benign activities like praying outside abortion clinics and encouraging women to choose life over death. Most of the convicted individuals were elderly—proof that the pro-life movement is not just a young person’s game but a cause cherished by those who have seen the value of life through decades of experience.

Take Paulette Harlow, a sprightly 75-year-old who spent a staggering 24 months behind bars for being a good Samaritan. She had the audacity to advocate for life while being politically targeted! She and her husband are vocal in their belief that their arrest was absurd—a classic case of government overreach. They argue that they did nothing but pray for mothers and babies. The audacity of a peaceful protest to draw attention to an issue shouldn’t land anyone in jail, but this is America, where activism for the unborn can get one deemed a criminal.
William Goodman, another pro-lifer, found himself serving a 27-month sentence for similar “crimes” in Connecticut when Trump swooped in to save the day. Goodman feels a kinship with Trump; both have faced the relentless assault of a weaponized justice system that seems to reserve its harshest treatments for those who dare to challenge the status quo. The current climate has many conservatives agreeing with him that Trump’s identification of pro-lifers as “political hostages” was a true reflection of their plight, fueling rally cries far and wide.
In response to stories like these, some lawmakers are taking bold actions. Senator Mike Lee and Congressman Chip Roy are pushing to repeal the FACE Act, aiming to ensure that pro-life advocates will never again be targeted by similar unjust measures under future Democrat administrations. Roy has been vocal about the need for this legal overhaul, describing how the FACE Act has been exploited to enact a political witch hunt against pro-lifers. He backed up his concerns with data showing that a staggering 97% of FACE Act prosecutions from 1994-2024 were directed at individuals fighting for the unborn.
The bottom line is clear: Americans everywhere have grown weary of being at the mercy of a justice system weaponized against them. With a Republican trifecta in Congress, there is a renewed sense of urgency to eliminate the FACE Act and prevent it from being used as a political tool in the future.
