Protesters Storm Church, Minnesotans Demand Action

Something felt profoundly amiss in Minnesota this weekend when anti-ICE protesters stormed into Cities Church in Minneapolis and screamed down worshippers during a Sunday service. Hardworking Americans who cherish religious liberty should be outraged that people would use a house of worship as a political battleground and terrorize families trying to pray.

Former NFL sideline reporter and Minnesotan Michele Tafoya — now a podcast host — didn’t mince words on The Story, saying she was astounded and disgusted by the spectacle and by what she called the tepid response from Governor Tim Walz. Tafoya’s anger reflects what many sensible citizens feel: religious freedom and public safety are nonnegotiable, and leaders who shrug only embolden the mob.

Video of the disruption shows dozens of agitators chanting “ICE out” and “Justice for Renee Good,” livestreamed by activist groups, in the middle of services that included children and elderly parishioners. Protesters have framed their actions as righteous outrage after the fatal shooting of Renee Good, and they even pointed to a pastor allegedly linked to local ICE operations — but intimidation of worshippers cannot be justified.

The Justice Department has opened an investigation, which is exactly what should happen when places of worship are invaded and citizens are harassed while exercising their constitutional rights. State officials can say they “don’t support” interruptions, but words are meaningless unless followed by decisive action to protect churches, families, and law enforcement from targeted harassment.

This is part of a broader trend where the left’s outrage machine confuses intimidation with activism and where local leaders too often look the other way to score political points. If we allow mobs to follow civil servants to their churches and threaten their children, we are inviting lawlessness and the erosion of the rule of law that keeps our communities safe.

Patriots should demand that Governor Walz and other officials stop offering tepid condemnations and start protecting citizens and houses of worship with the full force of the law. Stand with our pastors, back our law enforcement, and insist on accountability — because defending religious liberty and public safety is what keeps America strong.
