Protests At Trump Tower Over Pro-Hamas Activist Spark Controversy

Pro-Palestinian protesters took over President Trump’s glittery Tower in New York City this week, all in a bid to free Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Hamas activist whose views on antisemitism and terrorism must have missed the memo about acceptable discourse in America. Khalil, whose recent adventures included losing his green card and facing deportation, has apparently become a hero among the radical left, who stormed the lobby of Trump Tower to chant their demands for his release.

The protest was organized by the most enthusiastically misguided members of Jewish Voice for Peace, a group intent on redefining anti-Israel sentiment as some sort of noble cause. They insist that America needs to cut off support for Israel while they offer a platform for people like Khalil, who seems to have mistaken a love for Hamas with a sense of social justice. Ninety-eight protesters were taking a break from reality to set up shop in a high-end lobby, with many led away in cuffs, likely wondering how their signs could elicit more sympathy than common sense.

Onlookers might have found the protest amusing, given the theatrics displayed, including one woman claiming that they were honoring the biblical Esther, who bravely defended her people. One has to wonder if any history lessons were skipped in this assertion, not to mention the huge leap from Esther’s heroism to supporting a man deemed a threat due to his extremist views. Actress Debra Winger also joined in, embarrassing herself by claiming that Khalil was “abducted,” completely ignoring the fact that he was arrested under legal circumstances, not snatched off the street by shadowy figures.

No injuries or damages were reported during this absurd gathering, which could have easily turned into a slapstick comedy routine if it weren’t for the serious implications of their demands. They entered Trump Tower clad in regular fashion, only to reveal their protest gear within, suggesting that their ability to disguise their intentions was more sophisticated than their grasp of legal realities. Resistance to arrest and trespassing charges only added more layers to their misguided mission.

Meanwhile, in the world of academia, Khalil and seven of his fellow student cohorts took a page from the playbook of oppressed martyrs and filed a lawsuit attempting to block a Congressional inquiry into their disciplinary records. They claim this investigation threatens their First Amendment rights, conveniently neglecting to address the blatant antisemitism festering on campuses. The Republican-led committee exploring these concerns is clearly doing its job, especially when federal funding is at stake. Columbia’s response to this investigation might very well determine whether they continue to enjoy a share of $400 million in federal grants, further amplifying the stakes involved.

As the protests continue and lawsuits unfold, America watches with a mixture of disbelief and humor. What remains clear is that the liberal left’s encroachment into the realm of common sense knows no bounds, and their champions are becoming a punchline in the grand narrative of what’s left of rational discourse in the country.
