Today marks 24 years since evil terrorists attacked our great nation on September 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 innocent Americans were murdered by radical Islamic terrorists who hated our freedom and way of life. This was not just an attack on buildings, but an attack on everything we hold dear as Americans.
Across the country today, patriotic Americans are gathering to remember those we lost. At Ground Zero in New York City, families are reading the names of all 2,977 victims who were taken from us too soon. The Bell of Hope will ring at 8:46 in the morning, the exact moment when the first plane struck the Twin Towers.
President Trump is honoring our fallen heroes by attending a memorial service at the Pentagon. Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will pay their respects at Ground Zero where the Twin Towers once stood tall. These leaders understand that we must never forget this dark day in our history.
The heroes of Flight 93 showed true American courage when they fought back against the terrorists. Instead of letting those cowards reach their target in Washington, brave passengers gave their lives to save others. They proved that Americans will always fight back when evil threatens our homeland.
Our first responders ran toward danger while others ran away. Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics risked everything to save lives that day. Many of these heroes are still suffering from illnesses caused by the toxic dust and debris, and we owe them our continued support.
The attacks changed America forever, but they did not break our spirit. We came together as one nation under God, putting aside our differences to stand united against terrorism. That unity and strength is what makes America the greatest country on earth.
For 24 years, we have kept our promise to never forget those we lost. We have hunted down the terrorists responsible and made them pay for their crimes. Our military and intelligence agencies work every day to keep us safe from those who wish us harm.
As we remember this solemn day, we must teach our children about the evil of terrorism and the importance of defending freedom. We honor the fallen by living as free Americans and never taking our liberty for granted. God bless the victims, God bless their families, and God bless the United States of America.
