In the aftermath of former President Trump’s big wins in Iowa and New Hampshire, the pressure on his GOP rival, Nikki Haley, to drop out of the race heightened. Even RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel was clearly fed up with Haley’s refusal to acknowledge that it’s game over for her. McDaniel didn’t mince words when she appeared on Fox News, stressing that the general election is just around the corner and there’s no time to waste in taking down the “worst president” – obviously referring to the current resident of the White House.
McDaniel made it crystal clear that she doesn’t see any way forward for Haley and that it’s time for the Republican party to unite behind the inevitable nominee, Donald Trump. She didn’t beat around the bush in saying that the voters have spoken loud and clear – they want Trump, not Haley. It’s no wonder that Maryland’s RNC committeeman David Bossie put forth a draft resolution to crown Trump the “presumptive 2024 nominee.” But Trump wasn’t having any of it, shutting down the idea and prompting Bossie to pull the resolution before it could even go to a vote.

It seems like Trump is all about doing things the “Old Fashioned” way, wanting to seal the deal at the ballot box rather than having the RNC hand him the nomination on a silver platter. He made it known on Truth Social that, for the sake of party unity, the RNC should steer clear of making any presumptions about his nomination. As a token of his appreciation, Trump thanked the RNC for their respect and devotion.
Meanwhile, Haley’s campaign spokesperson, Olivia Perez-Cubas, didn’t hold back in her response to the proposed resolution, essentially shrugging off the RNC’s influence and emphasizing that the voters – not a bunch of “Washington insiders” – will ultimately decide the Republican nominee. Who needs the RNC’s say when you’ve got millions of Republican voters, right?
It’s clear that the conservative camp is going through some serious turmoil, with the battle lines drawn between the diehard Trump supporters and those who still cling to hope for another candidate. The drama and tension are ramping up as the Republican party grapples with its identity and future. The stakes are high, and it’s anyone’s guess how this showdown will play out on the road to the 2024 election.
