Rubio Strikes: Soleimani’s Relatives Face Deportation

Good news at last: Secretary of State Marco Rubio moved decisively to revoke the lawful permanent resident status of Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter, relatives of the late Qasem Soleimani, and federal agents took them into custody for removal. For years too many hostile actors and regime sympathizers have been allowed to hide in plain sight, and this administration is finally treating threats to America the way they should be treated.

The arrests came after Rubio determined the pair were no longer eligible to remain in the United States, a necessary step to protect our citizens and our troops abroad. Immigration and Customs Enforcement executed the detentions in Los Angeles after the State Department terminated their legal status, showing that enforcement can and must follow evidence.

According to officials, Afshar openly promoted Iranian regime propaganda, celebrated attacks on American soldiers, praised Tehran’s leaders, and voiced support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — a group the U.S. rightly designates as a terrorist organization. There is no place in America for people who cheer for the enemies of our country while living under the protection of U.S. immigration benefits.

Department of Homeland Security records released to reporters show Afshar entered the U.S. on a tourist visa and later received asylum and a green card, only to have subsequent travel and her own naturalization paperwork reveal multiple trips back to Iran. Those facts undermine any claim of persecution and point to fraud, which should disqualify anyone from permanent residence in this country.

Let’s be blunt: past laxity in vetting and enforcement has been exploited by adversaries and their enablers. It was predictable and dangerous that regime loyalists would attempt to exploit our immigration system as a sanctuary; the real test of leadership is whether officials will act when those abuses are exposed, and Rubio acted.

Patriots should demand more of this kind of clarity and toughness — not hollow gestures or selective enforcement. If green cards are privileges, not entitlements, then they must be revoked when holders betray the oath of fidelity to the United States or use their platforms to celebrate violence against Americans.

This episode is a reminder that national security and immigration policy are inseparable, and that protecting American lives requires both firmness abroad and vigilance at home. Conservatives who love this country should applaud decisive action, push for fuller accountability, and insist our borders and legal systems never become safe harbors for those who side with our enemies.
