The Senate is getting ready for another big vote on a plan to make the border more secure. This comes after the first try was blocked a few months ago by both Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats want to make the Republicans look bad by trying to get them to change their minds and support the plan this time around.

Charles E. Schumer, who is the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, says they want to use this vote to gain some ground on this topic. President Biden and the other Democrats in Congress are really struggling with this issue, so they’re hoping this vote will help.
The plan has a few parts to it that would make it harder for people to come into the country illegally. It also would make it easier to keep immigrants who are in the country illegally locked up instead of letting them go free. The plan also changes the rules for who can ask for asylum, which is a legal way to stay in the country.
The first time the Senate voted on this plan, it didn’t get enough support to pass. Most of the Republicans said no, along with a few Democrats. Mr. Schumer is really upset about this and he blames former President Donald Trump. He says the Republicans only changed their minds because Mr. Trump didn’t want the problem solved while he was running for president again.
House Republicans had already said they wouldn’t vote for the plan, even before Mr. Trump said anything. They think the plan won’t really fix the big problems at the border.
The Democrats are hoping that this new vote will make people think they are trying to fix the problem, even if the plan doesn’t pass. They have been working on this plan for a long time, and they didn’t let anyone see the details until recently. This made the Republicans feel worried about it.
Since the plan was made public, Republicans have said they don’t think it will really make the border safer. Some Republicans think it won’t stop as many people from coming into the country as they want. They also don’t think President Biden will make sure the plan is followed.
Even though fewer people have been caught coming into the country illegally recently, there are still a lot of people coming in. Some say this is because Mexico is stopping more people from getting to the U.S. border. But even though the Border Patrol is catching fewer people, overall more people are still coming into the country without permission. This is partly because of some new rules made by the Biden administration that let more people come in quickly and not get in trouble.
