Senator Manchin Urges Biden to Reconsider 2024 Run Cites Risk to Democratic Success

Senator Joe Manchin has officially joined the chorus of voices questioning President Biden’s continued candidacy for re-election. During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” the West Virginia senator made it clear that he believes it’s time for Biden to hang up his running shoes. This comes as no surprise, considering the president’s increasingly embarrassing stumbles and his administration’s struggles to deliver results.

When pressed by anchor Jake Tapper on whether Biden should step aside, Manchin took a moment to ponder, noting that his silence on the matter over the past three weeks was intended to allow the president a chance to reflect and consult with his inner circle. Apparently, it takes a senator with a heart and a smidge of common sense to recognize that even the leader of the free world might need a sit-down chat with the family about whether it’s time to call it a day. Who knew presidential campaigns required deliberation?

Manchin further remarked on the pressing concerns facing his fellow Democrats, particularly those in tough electoral races. His observation was crystal clear: Biden’s presence on the ticket could have dire consequences for those hoping to win in 2024. The senator noted that campaign financing is critical, and with Biden’s plummeting approval ratings, it’s hard to imagine donors excitedly throwing their money at the current administration. The days of Biden being the fundraising juggernaut seem long gone.

Despite his serious concerns, Manchin chose to send his well-wishes to Biden, expressing hope that the president could somehow manage to pull off what little remains of his term in office. According to Manchin, if Biden can show some sort of coherent leadership—be it via finding peace in the Middle East or effectively supporting Ukraine—he could potentially craft a legacy that isn’t entirely marred by disaster. It seems even Manchin is grasping at straws, hoping for the kind of miraculous pivot that rarely happens in politics.

In what can only be described as a moment of rare candor, Manchin conceded that it might be time for a new generation of leaders to take charge. He came to this heavy-hearted conclusion while many average Americans are wondering how much heavier a heart can be when looking at an administration that has lost its way. With Biden’s age and myriad gaffes, the question is not just about passing the torch—it’s also about whether there’s any light left in the room.
