Another tragedy has struck America’s children, this time at a Catholic school in Minneapolis. Two innocent kids, just 8 and 10 years old, were gunned down while sitting in church pews during morning Mass. Seventeen others were wounded when a disturbed individual opened fire through windows at Annunciation Catholic Church on August 27th.
The shooter was Robin Westman, a 23-year-old who was born male but legally changed names after claiming to be female. Westman’s mother used to work at this very school as a secretary and assistant. This makes the attack even more personal and twisted.
Westman came armed with multiple weapons – a rifle, shotgun, and pistol – all purchased legally and recently. The shooter fired dozens of rounds through church windows before taking their own life. Police say this was a deliberate attack on innocent children and worshippers.
Fourteen of the wounded victims were kids between ages 6 and 15. Three elderly parishioners in their 80s were also shot. At least seven victims arrived at hospitals in critical condition, though all injured are expected to survive.
This attack happened during the first week of school at a place where families trusted their children would be safe. These kids were simply attending morning Mass when evil struck. The church and school should have been a sanctuary, not a war zone.
Once again, we see how current policies have failed to protect our most vulnerable. While politicians talk about gun laws, they ignore the real problems plaguing our society. Mental health issues and the breakdown of traditional values continue to create dangerous individuals.
Our children deserve better protection than thoughts and prayers. Schools and churches need real security measures to stop these attacks before they happen. We cannot keep letting soft targets become easy prey for deranged killers.
The families of these victims will never be the same, and neither will this community. Two precious lives were cut short because our leaders refuse to take real action. America’s children are paying the price for failed leadership and weak policies.
