Democracy PAC, the brainchild of the Soros family, has decided to tighten its wallet by an impressive $14 million during the 2024 election cycle. Campaign finance filings reveal that from January 1, 2023, to Election Day 2024, the PAC still managed to splurge about $67.5 million on Democratic dreams of Congress and the White House, but that’s quite a drop from the over $81.5 million it generously dispensed during the 2020 elections. One can only wonder if Alex Soros, the family’s new political puppet master, is preparing for some expensive “retail therapy.”
In an intriguing twist, Alex Soros has taken over the reins of Democracy PAC, a role his father George clutched tightly during the last election. The younger Soros has not only grabbed control but also shifted directions, with plans for a whopping $125 million, although the exact roadmap remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Perhaps he’s saving it for an overpriced coffee in a hipster café, or maybe he simply hasn’t decided how to spend it.
Under Alex’s leadership, there’s been a noticeable shift in priorities. No longer obsessed with criminal justice reform like his father, the son has notably reduced contributions to “Justice and Public Safety PACs.” Where his father poured over $4 million into these efforts to elect progressive prosecutors, Alex has dedicated a mere $131,000. That can barely cover the cost of a good lunch in Manhattan, let alone spawn a new wave of criminal justice reform.
A marked shift is also seen in his funding to nonprofits like the Fund for Policy Reform; Alex recently moved $60 million from there to Democracy PAC. While this suggests he’s not abandoning the topic entirely, valuing style over substance seems the new game plan. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting a significant shakeup in the world of Soros-backed prosecutors; analysts report that half of the 25 linked candidates lost their elections. While they may have hoped for a solid incumbency, it seems even the Soros name can’t save a sinking ship.

Alex has certainly embraced a race-focused agenda with a hefty $15 million directed to the Black PAC, which claims to fight racism, white supremacy, and the like. While it sounds noble, they are also pouring cash into ads supporting notable Democratic candidates, like Vice President Kamala Harris. One can’t help but think that claiming a connection to civil rights while attempting to take down Trump after he garnered the highest percentage of black voters for a Republican in four decades is like watching a circus act—entertaining if absurd.
Despite its decreased spending, Democracy PAC has streamlined its donations to key Democratic committees, reaching a cool $24.5 million for the Senate Majority PAC and friends, a clear uptick from the previous cycle’s $17.5 million. With Alex cozying up to influential Democrats like Huma Abedin, it’s clear he’s climbing the so-called ladder of political influence. Reporting suggests Alex is as committed as they come, hustling through meetings with candidates fully stocked with cash for Democratic coffers. The major takeaway? When it comes to political influence, the Soros family is still tied at the hip with the Democrats, albeit with different strategies causing quite the stir in liberal circles.
