Speaker McCarthy Shuts Down Anti-Israel Propaganda Event, Proves He Has Courage

Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy of California made the right decision by canceling an anti-Israel event that was set to take place at the U.S. Capitol. The event was supposed to feature Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, who has a history of pushing anti-Israel and antisemitic beliefs. The event, called “Nakba 75 and the Palestinian People,” was aimed at attacking Israel on their 75th anniversary of independence by falsely accusing them of committing human rights abuses against Palestinians.

McCarthy stated that “It’s wrong for members of Congress to traffic in anti-Semitic tropes about Israel,” and he is absolutely right. As long as he is Speaker, he will unequivocally and in a bipartisan fashion support Israel’s right to self-determination and self-defense.

Tlaib’s co-sponsoring of a bill that would halt U.S. aid to Israel in order to prevent alleged human rights abuses committed by the Israeli government against Palestinians only further proves her anti-Israel and antisemitic stance. Therefore, it was a wise decision for McCarthy to replace Tlaib’s hate-filled event with a “bipartisan discussion to honor the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.”

It is important for Members of Congress to educate themselves about the facts before spreading lies and hateful propaganda against Israel. Israel has been a trusted ally of America for 75 years, and it is discouraging that some politicians would rather support terrorist organizations than stand with our ally. Thankfully, there are leaders like McCarthy who understand the value of the U.S.-Israel relationship and will always defend it against those who seek to undermine it.

In conclusion, while Tlaib and her sponsors may have intended to spread harmful lies and rhetoric towards Israel, McCarthy rightfully put a stop to it and ensured that America continues to stand alongside our valuable ally.
