House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has decided to withdraw her endorsement of Ohio Republican candidate Craig Riedel for Congress. Riedel was caught on tape expressing negative views about former President Donald Trump, and Stefanik is not having any of it! She was so disappointed in Riedel’s comments about President Trump that she simply couldn’t support him anymore. As Stefanik put it, her focus is on nominating the strongest candidates who are committed to getting President Trump elected in November and growing the GOP majority in the House.

But hold on to your hats, folks, because this decision comes with some risks. Riedel’s primary opponent is J.R. Majewski, who got slammed last year for allegedly lying about his combat record in Afghanistan. Yikes! It’s like they say, when it rains, it pours. House Republicans are worried that if Majewski wins the primary, their chance of defeating longtime Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) will go up in smoke. Kaptur is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats this year, and the last thing Republicans want to do is blow their chance of taking her down.
So, what’s the scoop on the race? The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates Ohio’s 9th Congressional District race as “lean Democrat.” Well, isn’t that just peachy? It’s going to be a wild ride as the battle for Congress heats up, and Stefanik’s move is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay tuned, folks – this is only the beginning!
