The holidays are a time for joy and family, but nothing can compare to the heartwarming moment when a service member returns home, especially around Christmas. Videos of military surprises never fail to bring a tear to the eye. An example of this is the moment a father, who had been away serving his country, came back home to surprise his family. He wrapped himself up in a giant box, ready to give his family the best Christmas present they could ask for—himself. It’s a powerful sight to see his kids bursting into tears of happiness as they realize their dad is home for the holidays.
This emotional reunion is a reminder of the sacrifices made by military families. While most of us are enjoying eggnog and gift wrapping, many of our troops are stationed far from home. Although every family deserves to be together during the holidays, not all service members get that opportunity. But when a reunion like this happens, it is truly a moment of magic, wrapped up in love, laughter, and maybe a few happy tears.
During these touching times, one can’t help but remember how President Trump went out to serve Christmas Eve dinner to the troops. Regardless of one’s political allegiance, it’s commendable for any leader to personally acknowledge the sacrifices of those in uniform. Trump’s gestures had a way of bringing attention to the importance of military families and the spirit of giving, which resonates strongly during the holiday season.
It’s refreshing to hear that military morale is reportedly high with record enlistment. It is as though, in some sense, Trump has rekindled what it means to serve. Despite modern-day issues, such as debates about defense spending and foreign policy, something has worked its way into the spine of the military culture, bringing about a renewed sense of pride and purpose.
At the end of the day, these reunions and gestures of gratitude remind us of the freedoms that are protected by countless brave men and women. Whether it’s through policy or personal actions, efforts to honor and appreciate the troops continue to uplift their spirit and acknowledge the sacrifices of both the duty-bound and their families.
