Although Kevin McCarthy is expected to be the next House speaker, there are still some conservative voices within the Republican Party who are still questioning his leadership. The party barely won the House in the 2022 midterm election.
Since the Republicans hold only a slim majority in the House, a Democrat could potentially serve as the next speaker if the members wanted to mess around. One of the individuals making a fuss is Florida's Matt Gaetz, who is hoping that Jim Jordan would change his mind and run for the leadership post.
All I want for Christmas is @Jim_Jordan to realize he should be Speaker of the House!

In response to McCarthy's expected ascension as the next House speaker, Gaetz criticized the Republican leader on Twitter. He then asked his followers to urge Jordan to run for the top job.
In August, Gaetz praised Jordan for his hard work and dedication to his conservative constituents. He also told Fox News that Jordan was the most talented member of the group.
Since the Republicans will have a majority in the House when the new Congress convenes next month, Jordan has not officially announced his intention to run for the speakership.
Jordan has since endorsed McCarthy for the speakership. However, he expressed his concerns about the possibility of the Republicans working with Democrats to elect a new leader.
Although McCarthy was able to win the support of the House Republican Conference last month, he still has to secure the majority on the floor in order to become the next speaker.
