Residents of Chicago are becoming increasingly frustrated with local leaders who they feel are putting illegal immigrants ahead of their citizens. Many are voicing their concerns about rising crime and drug issues, which they associate with the influx of undocumented individuals. People in the Windy City are fed up with politicians who pledge to protect them but instead focus on the interests of those who are in the country illegally. This discontent has fueled support for figures like Tom Homan, a leading voice in the fight against illegal immigration, who is applauded for his efforts to clean up the city.
Recent U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data appears to reinforce the idea that stricter immigration policies might be having a positive effect. Following the Biden administration’s previous record-breaking numbers of border encounters, which soared to around 2 million in fiscal year 2021, the figures have drastically dropped to under 300,000 in fiscal year 2023. Such a shift is significant and points to a more controlled approach towards border security. However, Homan emphasizes that the work is far from over. He is determined to not only secure the border but to ramp up arrests of criminals already within the United States.
Homan highlights a stark contrast to earlier policies, declaring that illegal immigrants cannot have a “haven” anywhere in the country. This change in approach means that law enforcement is now focusing its attention on cracking down on public safety threats, including gang members hiding out in neighborhoods or schools.
