Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, testified at a Senate committee hearing on “Protecting Pride: Defending the Civil Rights of LGBTQ+ Americans” and shed light onto the unfairness of biological men competing in women’s sports. Gaines recalled competing against Lia Thomas, a transgender woman, formerly known as William Thomas, in the 200-yard NCAA Freestyle championship race, where despite being previously ranked 554th in the men’s 200 freestyle, Thomas finished fifth, first, and eighth in the 200, 500, and 1650 freestyles amongst women.
Gaines, who tied with Thomas in the same race, stated that the NCAA handed Thomas the trophy and asked Gaines to go home empty-handed so that Thomas could have it for photo purposes. Gaines cited Title IX guidelines and accused the governing body for elite college athletes of “intentionally and explicitly discriminating on the basis of sex” to displace female athletes in the pool and on the podium.
Gaines further talked about how she and her teammates were unaware that they would have to share a locker room with someone who was obviously a male, which Gaines said was “traumatizing.” Gaines added that the officials dismissed female swimmers’ right to privacy. When being questioned about erasing women’s sports and Title IX, Democrats and leftists refused to acknowledge the disparity between men and women in sports.
Here’s the fearless @Riley_Gaines_ explaining what it was like to have a 6’4” biological man in her locker room – and being told to shut up about it. This is the “tolerance” of the left pic.twitter.com/KjbhGkhmtV

Despite the evidence, Kelly Robinson, President of the Human Rights Campaign, one of the largest LGBTQ+ rights groups in the nation, avoided a definitive statement. Robinson referenced an article about men who tried to beat tennis star Serena Williams but could not, remarking that Williams was “stronger than them.” Gaines quickly interjected with the fact that both Serena and Venus lost to the 203rd-ranked male tennis player.
The Democrats’ support for the erasure of women’s sports and Title IX has been noted by speculators who wonder why the left’s absolute protection of such a small group of people. From wanting a reliable voting bloc to something else, the fact remains that the Democrats are not only the “party of women” but also the “party of science.”
