Former President Donald Trump slammed President Joe Biden’s push to swiftly shift the U.S. car market to electric vehicles, stating that his environmental extremism would bring about the death of Michigan. Speaking to Oakland County Republicans, Trump mentioned that “Biden is a catastrophe for Michigan, and his environmental extremism is heartless, disloyal, and terrible for American workers, and you’re beginning to see this.” Trump added that this addition of electric cars would remove over 50% of auto jobs in the U.S. and decimate the suppliers, which will be similar to the ones already decimated.

Trump further stated that it was seriously going to impact the state of Michigan, decimating it in the most unimaginable way; people wouldn’t be able to conceive it. In April, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) of the Biden administration issued a draft that requires 67% of freshly sold US passenger vehicle sales to be electric cars by 2032. In a press conference, EPA administrator Michael Regan said that these regulations would aid in the acceleration of the ongoing transition to a clean-vehicle era that would combat climate change and refine air quality across the nation.
Trump vehemently opposed this shift, saying that China would benefit the most from it. He also criticized the approval of $700 million economic development incentives by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer for a battery plant near Big Rapids. Trump accused the governor of lavishing hundreds of billions of Michigan taxpayer dollars on Chinese companies, particularly Gotion, to create batteries in Michigan. The losing deal would cause the Chinese companies to exit with the Americans’ money, bidding farewell to them.
In conclusion, Trump’s speech was a direct attack on the liberal’s green new deal ideology and how it is hurting the American people, particularly the residents of Michigan, who rely on the automobile industry to put food on their tables. Trump added that Republican leaders must stand up against these policies and show people that they are the ones to lead the country to prosperity.
