Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to launch another scathing attack against Attorney General Merrick Garland and special counsel Jack Smith. Trump criticized their timing in bringing charges against him, suggesting that it was politically motivated as the 2024 presidential election draws closer. It seems that Trump has a valid point – after all, shouldn’t those in power be focusing on the campaign instead of meddling in his affairs?

This is not the first time Trump has used his social media platform to express his frustration and take aim at those involved in the investigations against him. In fact, he often seems to be one step ahead of new developments. Just last week, he revealed that he had received a letter notifying him that he is now a “TARGET” of Smith’s grand jury investigation. And if history is any indication, this usually leads to an arrest and indictment.
But let’s not jump to conclusions just yet. It’s unclear whether Trump’s recent post is simply him venting or if it’s a calculated move to divert attention before a major development in the cases against him. Regardless, one thing is for certain – Trump is still the top dog among Republicans in recent polling. He’s leading the pack of potential GOP candidates for the 2024 presidential race, with 50.8% support, according to a FiveThirtyEight poll. The rise of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been overshadowed by Trump’s continued popularity.
Of course, the real test will be the general election if Trump makes it that far. According to a poll from the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies, Trump would beat both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. It’s clear that Trump still has a strong following and the potential to make a significant impact in future elections.
As we eagerly wait to see if Trump will be hit with a third indictment, one thing is certain – his response will be swift and undoubtedly entertaining. Love him or hate him, you can’t help but keep an eye on what the former president will do next. And who knows, maybe there’s some truth to his claims of prosecutorial misconduct and election interference. Only time will tell.
