That blunt, unapologetic leadership is exactly what Americans expect when global energy and national security collide; talk is cheap but a visible naval presence isn’t.
The stakes could not be clearer — the Strait of Hormuz moves roughly one-fifth of global seaborne oil and a disruption there sends prices and panic straight to Main Street. Tankers have been idling and commercial traffic has thinned as insurers jack up premiums, showing why a muscular response is not optional but essential for families and industry back home.
Washington has already begun to turn rhetoric into action, sending an amphibious assault ship and thousands of Marines into the region and signaling that tanker escorts could begin “as soon as militarily possible.” That deliberate surge — the kind of forward posture Democrats used to call recklessly hawkish — is exactly what’s needed to protect American interests and global energy stability.
And yet, predictably, some supposed allies are hedging while the oil market and American paychecks suffer. Paris was quick to say no to a battlefield role even as their rhetoric laments higher prices, a reminder that America must lead and others should pull their weight or accept the consequences.
Voices with real maritime experience are backing the straight-forward approach: former Navy lieutenant commander Tom Sauer — an EOD and mine-clearance veteran — has long emphasized the need for robust naval power, mine countermeasures, and specialized task forces to keep chokepoints like Hormuz open.
