Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Houston where he referred to the individuals imprisoned for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot as “hostages.” Trump walked onstage to the song “Justice for All,” performed by the J6 Prison Choir, a group composed of those incarcerated for their actions on January 6. He expressed his sympathy for these individuals, calling their situation a “shame.”
During his speech, Trump boasted about the song’s success on music charts, claiming that it surpassed popular artists like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. This was not the first time he used this song at a rally; he previously played it at a Waco, Texas, rally in March. Typically, Trump enters rallies to the tune of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”

While in Houston, Trump also criticized President Joe Biden’s support for green energy policies and electric vehicles. He promised that if reelected, he would cancel electric vehicle mandates and end what he termed Biden’s “nation-wrecking war on American energy.” Trump argued that electric vehicles would lead to job loss and claimed that the necessary resources for their production are lacking in the United States.
Furthermore, Trump blamed Biden for rising gas prices and inflation. He took credit for lower gas prices during his presidency, highlighting that they had dropped to $1.87 per gallon. Additionally, he took a moment to mock Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, suggesting that DeSantis wore height-enhancing insoles in his cowboy boots.
As Trump continues to pursue political ambitions, he faces numerous indictments across four criminal cases. Two of these cases are connected to the 2020 election, and there is a possibility that he may go to trial during the 2024 primary nominating contests.
