Trump took to Truth Social to deliver this news, pointing out that the taxpayer was footing the bill for Hunter’s 18-agent squad while he enjoys sipping cocktails in South Africa, a nation literally known for its human rights woes. The absurdity of the situation is rich enough to make even the most stoic citizen chuckle.
Trump rightly emphasized the sheer waste of taxpayer dollars tied to this lavish security detail. After all, any regular parent can tell you that their child is capable of handling their own affairs—around the age of, oh, let’s say, 54, Hunter should have mastered that skill long ago. The din of agents tailing him in posh destinations seems more like celebrity privilege than necessary protection.
While tradition dictates that only former presidents and their spouses enjoy lifelong Secret Service detail, Hunter and Ashley have apparently been riding that gravy train long enough to raise eyebrows, nearing the two-month mark since Joe Biden vacated the Oval Office. One has to wonder how many lobbyists or foreign entities have contributed to their lives of luxury—all under the protective umbrella of tax-funded security.

Critics on the right have not hesitated to draw a line between Hunter’s controversial dealings and the extravagant treatment he continues to receive. Allegations of influence peddling involving nefarious connections to China and Ukraine amplify concerns about whether Hunter deserves such protection at all. With evidence stacking up like dirty laundry, it’s clear that many Americans believe neither Biden sibling should enjoy another dime of taxpayer money when it’s clearly not warranted.
In a similar vein, Trump’s contempt for extensive lifelong protection isn’t limited to the Bidens. Remember Dr. Fauci? Trump’s previous move to strip his security detail made it clear: once your government gig is over, so should your cushy security detail, especially if you’re more famous for flip-flopping on masks than serving the public good. If Trump has his way, the era of cushy government perks might just be coming to an end, starting with the Biden kids. The question now is how much longer the establishment will tolerate this gilded lifestyle funded by hard-working Americans.
