Trump Gains Arab American Support Amid Shift Away from Biden Over Israel Policies

Former President Donald Trump is actively seeking to gain the support of Arab American activists and donors who have become disillusioned with President Joe Biden. This shift in allegiance is driven by dissatisfaction with Biden’s policies, particularly his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, prompting many Arab and Muslim Americans to hope for his defeat in the 2024 election.

Richard Grenell, Trump’s former ambassador to Germany, organized a dinner in Michigan to gather support for Trump and encourage voters to move away from Biden. As the 2024 election approaches, there is a notable change in the voting intentions of Arab Americans and Muslims. A New York Times-Siena College poll indicates that 57 percent of Arab and Muslim voters in key battleground states plan to vote for Trump, while only 25 percent intend to support Biden.

Some Arab and Muslim Americans cite Biden’s position on Israel as a reason for their shift in support, while others criticize his sanctions on Syria and feel he has not adequately protected their communities in the U.S. Many attendees at the dinner expressed concerns not specifically about the Gaza conflict but about Biden’s actions regarding Syria and their communities in the U.S.

The Washington Post reports that a Syrian-American activist emphasized a desire for change due to the situation in Gaza and the broader region, leading many, including himself, to actively support Trump’s return to office. Additionally, a recent survey revealed that many Americans believe withholding weapons from Israel would embolden Hamas and its allies, with a majority supporting Israel in the event of an invasion and blaming Hamas for the conflict.

Biden’s approach to the Israel conflict has left many Americans uncertain about their vote in the upcoming election, rather than fully supporting the president
