The 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be anything but competitive, as Vice President Kamala Harris finds herself thoroughly outmatched by former President Donald Trump in key battlegrounds. Once considered a toss-up, the race has turned into a showcase of Trump’s continued dominance, as he leads significantly in states that Harris desperately needed to flip in order to stand a chance at the White House.
Trump’s recent victories in North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania have solidified his status as the front-runner, leaving Harris floundering behind. After decisively winning these crucial states, Trump has maintained both his lead in the Electoral College and the popular vote. The most shocking blow to Harris’s campaign came in Iowa, where she was projected to win but lost to Trump by double-digit margins—talk about a swing and a miss.
In this current election some states are more important than ever to get out and vote. These "battleground states" are the deciders of the presidential election and will choose who the next president is.

The battleground states are looking increasingly grim for Harris as new rankings show just how far behind she is. In North Carolina, the former president snagged 51.2% of the vote compared to Harris’s 47.6%. The Associated Press declared North Carolina for Trump long before bedtime, and the state’s 16 electoral votes are now safely in his pocket. This state, traditionally supportive of Republican presidential candidates and last won by Obama in 2008, has shown once again that it prefers the strong leadership of the Right.
Georgia also proved to be a pivotal victory for Trump. He flipped the state, which he lost in 2020, and captured nearly 51% of the vote against Harris’s 48.4%. Apparently, the Peach State isn’t ready to go back to its 2020 voting ways. Trump’s hard work to mend fences with Governor Brian Kemp has certainly paid off, allowing him to reclaim Georgia’s 16 electoral votes while Harris faced another setback.
And then there was Pennsylvania, the Keystone State, which typically acts as a bellwether in presidential elections. Trump snatched victory here with a solid 51% of the vote, putting a huge question mark over Harris’s hopes. Without this vital state under her belt, Harris’s path to the presidency is all but closed. Notably, she failed to address her supporters at her watch party, perhaps recognizing the sinking ship she was on before the final curtain had even fallen.
As for the remaining battlegrounds—Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Michigan—Trump is leading in all of them, displaying a consistent trend of Harris struggling to keep pace. With everything pointing towards an uphill battle, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that the vice president can stage a comeback. For conservatives, it’s shaping up to be a jubilant race as the Trump train barrels ahead, leaving Harris’s campaign sputtering in its wake.
